I received an awesome surprise gift for an anniversary present. We never exchange gifts, let alone have time to celebrate our anniversary due to our daughter's b-day and Thanksgiving all falling within a few days of each other. So I was ecstatic to receive the new Kindle Fire.
Well, after looking at the prices of books on Kindle, I decided I needed to come up with a new strategy for purchasing books. Some books in Kindle format are only a couple of dollars less than the hardcovers!
So here's what I decided to do. I'll still purchase hardcovers/paperback from the bookstore. I still love having books the good old fashioned way. I will also purchase self-pubbed and e-books for my Kindle. I'm super excited to be able to support the e-book and self-pubbed authors now as well.
This means that currently I'm on a book buying binge for e-books and self-pubbed. I want to increase the size of my library. If you have any MG or YA (especially Sci/Fi or fantasy) recommendations for the Kindle, please let me know. Currently, I have the following books (only 3 so far).
Open Minds by Susan Kaye Quinn (I'm really enjoying this one!)
Become by Ali Cross
Untraceable by S.R. Johannes
Thanks to Laura Pauling for the Become and Untraceable recommendations.
Happy Reading and Writing to all!
Kimberly
No recommendations here. I've yet to read an ebook and am more into adult fantasy than YA myself.
ReplyDeleteBut congrats on the new Kindle Fire. ^_^
ooh, I WANT a Kindle Fire. Enjoy :)
ReplyDeleteDo you have preferences on genre?
ReplyDeleteBound by C.K. Bryant
Watched by Cindy Hogan
Variant by Robinson Wells, i'm getting that soon
ReplyDeleteand i cant believe the mark up for best sellers! good for authors i guess... i like solid books better anyway, but i have some ebooks. i also like how amazon is buying back books. maybe we will be able to rent ebooks soon, do they do that yet?
Exiled by RaShelle Workman--it's a mix of YA Fantasy and Science Fiction. :)
ReplyDeleteI do the same -- buy from the traditional pubs the old-fashioned way, because of the price & by small publishers & indies in ebook.
ReplyDeleteI write sci-fi & fantasy. Have three free short stories. Hope to have more soon.
Hey, I know two of those authors!
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree that eBooks should not be just a couple dollars cheaper than physical books.
Thanks for purchasing mine as well!
Very nice blog.
ReplyDeleteNEW FOLLOWER.

ReplyDeleteBut as book lovers we still buy a lot traditional published books.
By the way your blog is interesting and therefore I decided to follow you.
Thank you for visiting my blog.
Glad you're enjoy your Kindle Fire. I bought Hubby a Nook for Halloween and I tell ya, I never thought I'd like reading on that thing.
ReplyDeleteGlad I was wrong.
And I LOVE being able to read in the dark. Best part.
Cheers.
This seems very smart...Me, I became addicted to my e-reader so I downloaded the IndieBound app and now buy all my e-books from my local indie store.
